Do Broker Open Houses Still Work?

This is the time of year where we like to reach out to our clients and people that we have served in the past year and remind you that you are supposed to be getting things together to do your taxes.

One thing you’ll need is your ALTA statement. It’s a breakdown of the charges and expenses that you had when you bought or sold a home and some of them are tax deductible so you’ll want to have a copy of it if you did any real estate transactions in 2017. If you can’t find it or don’t know what happened to it, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at the office. We can email you a copy so that you can get all of your figures correct.

We did a lot of broker open houses back when we didn’t have the internet.
A lot of sellers have been questioning lately whether broker open houses are effective in getting homes sold. You know, there are a lot of things we can do as real estate agents in today’s world to market and sell a home. The majority of the communication about new homes on the market is all done electronically.

We did a lot of broker open houses back in the 90s because we didn’t have the internet. We’d all pile into a car and caravan over to look at all the new listings on Thursdays. Nowadays, we can go and see 40 to 50 pictures and get a virtual tour of pretty much any new property that’s listed. If an agent really has interest in a property and wants to preview it for their client, that’s perfectly fine. However, in my opinion, the broker open houses don’t really work anymore. They’re just not well attended.
